| Safety Check List |
| Kitchen |
| Stove: Use backburners whenever possible. If using front burners, turn pot handles back. Stove guards are available to help prevent splattering grease and prevent children from reaching pot handles. Oven door locks are also available. |
| Dishwasher: Point all knives and forks down. Keep the door locked. |
| Chemicals: If possible, move all hazardous chemicals from the lower cabinets. Lock the cabinet doors. |
| Vents: Screw down or use double-sided tape to secure. |
| Kitchen Table: Check under the tables and chairs for exposed nails, staples, or screws. Pad the edges of tables using a Toddler Shield. |
| Pantry: Lock the door, many styles of latches are available. Plastic bags are a suffocation hazard, use a bag holder and keep out of child's reach. |
| Outlets: Cover with safety plates or outlet covers, white and almond colors are available. |
| Window Cords: Use cord wraps, blind winders, or cord wind-ups to keep out of child's reach. |
| Drawers&Cabinets: Latch all drawers and cabinets below the counter top. Use magnetic tot locks on cabinets with dangerous items stored in them. |
| Family Rooms |
| Tables: Pad the edges with Toddler Shields, three sizes and two colors to choose from. |
| TV: Secure to surface with TV Straps. |
| Bookshelves: Use furniture straps to secure shelving units to the wall. Anything taller than it is wide can be tipped over by small children. |
| Wiring: Use cord control kit, wire guard, or cord-a-ways to cover and hide any exposed wiring. |
| Fireplaces: Have a hearth gate installed. Remove tools and gas key. Keep supplies locked in a closet. |
| Powerstrips: Cover with a powerstrip cover. Two styles available. |
| Outlets: Cover with safety plates or outlet covers. |
| Window Cords: Use cord wraps, blind winders, or cord wind-ups to keep out of child's reach. |
| Stairs |
| Top&Bottom of Stairs: Have a safety gate installed, many styles available. |
| Railings: A child's head can get stuck in openings that are more than 4" wide. Children can fall through larger openings. Have Kidshield installed to prevent injuries. |
| Bathrooms |
| Toilets: Have a toilet lid lock installed to prevent drownings. This also prevents the dropping of items like toys into the toilet. |
| Doorstops: The rubber tip at the end of conventional doorstops can be removed posing a choking hazard. Have a one piece doorstop installed. Available in beige, brown, and white. |
| Garbage Can: Lock this inside of a cabinet. |
| Cabinets: Lock with one of the many style latches that are available. |
| Medicine Cabinet: Lock with a safety latch. Available in black or white. Items such as toothpaste and mouthwash can be toxic to your child if swallowed. |
| Bathtub: Use a non-slip bathmat on the bottom of the tub. Pad the tub edges and water spout with our safety padding. |
| Basement Doors |
| Top of Stairs: Have a safety gate installed. |
| Door: Lock the door with one of the many style door locks that are available. |
| Closets |
| All Doors: Single wire hangers may cause injuries. Dry cleaning bags, plastic bags, ties, and belts are all possible choking hazards and may cause strangulation. Lock closet doors with one of the many types of locks that are available. |
| Hot Water Heater: Turn the temperature down to 120 degrees. Lock the door with a surface bolt or flip lock. |
| Furnace Room: Lock the door with a surface bolt or flip lock. Various colors are available. |
| Nursery/Child's Room |
| Window Cords: Use cord wraps, blind winders, or cord wind-ups to keep out of child's reach. |
| Dressers/Bookshelves: Use furniture straps to secure these units to the wall and prevent tipping. Drawers are often used as steps, lock the drawers with one of the many style latches that are available. |
| Outlets: Cover with safety plates or outlet covers. |
| Wiring: Use cord control kit, wire guard, or cord-a-ways to cover and hide any exposed wiring. |
| Windows: Have a Burgla Bar installed to prevent window from being open beyond 4". Don't put anything under the window which a child can use to climb and gain access to.. |
| Crib: Make sure the mattress fits snug, mobiles are hung out of child's reach, and crib toys are hung on the wall side of the crib. Don't fill the crib with pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals. Crib railings should be no more than 2 3/8" apart. |
| Bedrooms |
| Outlets: Cover with safety plates or outlet covers. |
| Wiring: Use a cord control kit, wire guard, or cord-a-way to cover and hide any exposed wiring. |
| Doorstops: Replace conventional doorstops with a safer one piece design. |
| Window Cords: Use cord wraps, blind winders, or cord wind-ups to keep cords out of child's reach. |
| TV: Secure to its surface with TV safety straps. |
| Bookshelves: Attatch these types of units to the wall with furniture safety straps. |
| Night Stands: Keep the drawers locked if dangerous items are stored there. Many styles of latches are available. |
